Kurkure / Plastic ?

It is nice to see companies like Fritolay India (part of Pepsico), the company that makes the snacks called “Kurkure“, coming online and explaining about the allegations in one of the chain mails that claimed “if you burn Kurkure, it would turn to plastic and is, therefore, harmful to health”. Read more about it here.

I am happy that Pepsico realizes that India is waking up to “Good Health” and so, they are launching snacks with a “Snack Smart” concept (Snacks with 40% Less Saturated Fats and Zero Trans Fats).

I am happy that such companies are coming out with these alternatives for people. Hope to see a healthy India soon.

Interesting to see that “World Brands” are recognizing the potential the Indian consumer market has and changing their stance from treating it as a dumping ground to marketing it with quality products.

However, its an intelligent marketing pitch to talk about LESS FAT and not dwell into the calorie intake.

Namit, Whats your take on it?

@Nandini
Yes, its true that talking about “LESS FAT” and not dwelling into the calorie count of the products is a nice way to market. But the fact that “Less Saturated Fat” is a good thing, can not be ignored :)
I would give due credit to Fritos India for bringing out this product to capture the emerging market of health conscious people in India.

Hi Namit,

The rumor about Kurkure containing plastic has been spread so much on the web that on every other blog or forum there is a post on it.

But people don’t realize sometimes such news are spread to only spoil the reputation of a company or a brand.

On the Kurkure website too, it is clearly mentioned that there is no plastic in Kurkure but still people believe in such untrue rumors.

Kurkure, as far as I know, has the same ingredients we use for home made food: stuff like rice meal, corn meal, gram meal, edible oil, salt, spices, condiments etc. The oil used is bran oil which has very less saturated fat. So, it is healthy and tasty food in more ways than one. Dunno how these Kurkure plastic rumors came about. But as if, I care!
