For ages I have thought the reason we all know so less about being healthy is that we are supposed to read subjects like History (which gives us important lessons, but nothing as valuable as knowledge about Human Body and how to be healthy) but nothing about Human Body and how to be healthy.
Finally it is here… NCERT school syllabi will focus on health
This is the best news I have read so far in 2010 !
On the way to Lalgagh, we saw someone selling something out of 15-20 Containers (the kinds that are used to get milk from mother dairy in Delhi). Himanshu mentioned that in Mumbai, they sell Mixed Fruit Juice out of similar containers on Juhu and they mix juices as per your wish. We took a U turn and went back to that shop. He said these are Ayurvedic Juices and we wanted to explore further. He had Karela, Loki, Kari Patta, Carrot, Tulsi, Amla, Bhrahmi, Neem, Lime, Aloe and around 10 more different things. An uncle standing came and asked for a juice “Neem, Karela”, looked at us and said “It is good for Sugar”. Himanshu confirmed that his father has also been prescribed the same juice. We decided to give it a shot and you know what, don’t even try to taste the neem karela combination, and just gulp the entire glass of juice. We tried a few combinations and then left. In the car the unanimous first reaction was “it woke me up” and then discussion started around why these juices are healthy and no one cares.
We reached Lalbagh and found out there is a similar shop there as well. After the run we had tried a few more juice combinations. He sells around 100 juices every Sunday and around 70 on a weekday. Wow! If these many people come to him to have these juices every day, then just imagine how many people come to Lalbagh everyday!
BTW it was just Rs. 10 per glass at the shop near Lalbagh and Rs. 7 per glass at the shop on the way to Lalbagh.
Prior to this attempt I had reduced from 105 to around 101 in a few disconnected, half hearted effort of around 45 days… ]
One fine morning in July while working in office, I got a call from one of my father’s friend, asking me to have a look at how can technology / IT help one of the finest Health Expert in North India. I was anyways going to Delhi for the weekend, so I decided to have a look. Apart from contributing as much as I could on the technology front, I couldn’t help noticing the scale of the business ! I was amazed by the number of people that consult Nutritionists for weight loss and other lifestyle related health problems. I realized I should soon do something about my off the charts weight… (This was the first wake up call !)
After a few days, I saw Adnan Sami (yes the singer) on TV as one of the Miss India Judges. He had lost around 109 Kgs !!! (This was the second wake up call !)

New Slim Adnan Sami
It took me around 5-7 Days to figure out the right(atleast I thought so) diet plan from the diff diet plans available on net. Did a lot of research and landed with a plan for me on 15th April. More or less it was like this for most of the days :
Early Morning : Lemon + Honey in luke warm water.
Breakfast : As we all know, it should be heavy, so I planned a lot of salad (most of it is roughage) and soyabean (full of proteins, ain’t it !)
Lunch : Used to be some dal(a lot of proteins, right ?) - 1 or 2 bowl + salad [this was constraint by the stuff that I could find in office]
Dinner : Salad and Dal
So basically a lot of roughage and protein, which to my knowledge was a modified version of Atkins Diet (which had a leagacy of proven results + roughage to keep the bowel movement fine)
And there were a few things (that I usually used to have) that I had kept in DO NOT HAVE list: Sugar, Butter, Maida, Alcohol, Cheese, Maggi, Biscuit, Coffee
Along with this diet, I started exploring the available options around me to exercise…
Of the available options that I had, I preferred Tennis - Because I hate being alone, and I had someone or the other at home to play with me…
I started the diet plan on 16th morning…
Yes, the Diet Plan looked boring and Playing Tennis everyday wasn’t easy, specially for me ! (I used to work from 1 PM to 1 AM). The only thing that kept me going was when I used to look at the weighing machine and How well I have been able to control my eating habit. All this because I used to track what I eat and the exercise that I used to do in an Excel Sheet.
